Vote like your life depends on it because yeah, it actually does. Voltaire was right, those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.

@(((Howard Forman))) the opportunity costs here are absurd. 24% of clinical trials are still on HCQ, we are spending so much time/effort/resources unringing this silly bell https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-MWPqgLUvA&list=PL4VOPuLXRs1dcwbpA8xAhtygOREar7D-t&index=5&t=1s

BOLTON says at Aspen Security Forum says Trump did take some tough actions against Russia — but only because advisers framed them as advantageous for reelection. "He did it screaming and kicking every step of the way."

The strange realities of 2020 have perfectly played to the kind of fear QAnon thrives on, driving record online interest in the conspiracy theory. w/  @Sara Fischer https://www.axios.com/qanons-2020-resurgence-41759d2b-7d08-4d6e-bad0-d2a63b6285ad.html?utm_campaign=...

This  @Jonathan Swan interview left Trump in tatters. If you still support him, just listen to the interview and ask yourself: Is this a guy I’d trust with, say, my child’s future? Heck, is he someone I’d trust to pick up my laundry?

.@jonathanvswan: “Oh, you’re doing death as a proportion of cases. I’m talking about death as a proportion of population. That’s where the U.S. is really bad. Much worse than South Korea, Germany, etc.”

@realdonaldtrump: “You can’t do that.”

Swan: “Why can’t I do that?”

"Yo, Semites!" will one day be a Jeopardy answer. But in what category? And which answers will the judges accept?

We are reeling in collective horror at Trump’s responses to the Axios interview. This is a good analysis:

Again and again,  @Jonathan Swan challenged Trump to show basic humanity about the mounting toll on his watch, and to take responsibility for it. Trump failed this most basic of tests. That's the hidden reason this interview is so powerful. New piece: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/08/04/how-interview-serial-liar-narcissist-who-is-unfit...

"Putin is Trump's honey trap," one of his former advisers told me, using an expression reserved for attractive spies who romance their marks into becoming double agents. It is not an encouraging appraisal to hear from someone who served this President at the highest level.

I want my children back in school but we can’t even go in the Elevator with other people, so I’m not sure how we’re supposed to send our kids back to school.

@Donald J. Trump is claiming that  @NASA was "almost like an abandoned place" because the Kennedy Space Center's Shuttle Landing Facility runway was not being used. It was not being used because the space shuttle no longer uses it to land.

@jonathanvswan At one point, @jonathanvswan tried to access Trump's humanity through the portal of his narcissism.

By praising Trump's rally crowds, Swan hoped to induce him to recognize a responsibility to level with his supporters about the virus.

No such luck:

If you’re a parent and haven’t read this thread yet, make some time. Clear and nuanced explanation of Covid infection/transmission rates among kids, school reopenings and what the data show (and doesn’t show).

Three new important studies came out in the past week about kids &  #COVID19. All have limits (the science isn't perfect). But together, they matter, & you deserve to know about them! A thread on the takeaways for all of us, as parents / teachers / communities? 🧵

The thing I don't get about the WH scheduling the  @Jonathan Swan interview is that he did one with Jared last year that was nearly as devastating as this Trump one. What did they think was going to happen?

Honestly don't know what to call this other than suppression.

The Florida Rights Restoration Coalition says it's had almost 500 people w/ felony convictions apply to its fines and fees fund "simply because they cannot identify their LFOs or navigate state systems themselves."

Opinion: Screening every child for adverse childhood experiences and working to mitigate them can tamp down the biological stress response responsible for a range of health problems and chronic diseases in childhood and adulthood. https://buff.ly/3gsghtE

TODAY: I'm hosting a roundtable at 12 p.m. to examine Trump’s deployment of DHS agents in Portland, a dangerous move that violates the rights & liberties of U.S. civilians. Tune in: https://raskin.house.gov/media/press-releases/chairman-raskin-hold-democratic-member-roundtable-dhs-...
