A friend in the '70s, Bob Tyrrell, harrumphs about my colleague  @Sarah Longwell: "I have been a conservative for over half a century and I have never heard of her." Maybe some conservatives could learn something by getting out and meeting people under 75? https://go.shr.lc/3j22agi

Bob Tyrrell presided over a stimulating magazine in the 1970s and 1980s, and published what I remember as a pretty good book in 1992, "The Conservative Crack-Up." Now we have the conservative crack-up on steroids, and he, sadly, is part of it. https://go.shr.lc/3j22agi

This ad spears the core truth on  #Trump's exploitation of Christian American voters. There is no Amazing Grace in  #Trump's leadership, no matter how frequently he may borrow someone else's Bible for a tawdry photo op.

NEW AD: Six Republican voters on how @RealDonaldTrump is using Christians to promote the type of hatred that Jesus would never justify. Airing on TV this week in North Carolina.

“You have tied your political career to this man...You didn’t like it...But better to win with dishonor than lose with your integrity intact. And this is what you get. You must now realize that what you have coming is defeat, but with dishonor.” https://thebulwark.com/elder-abuse-at-the-white-house/

“The president was in full Mad King mode, rambling, confused, disjointed, parading his grievances with barely a wave from afar at coherence. It was as if a hive of buzzwords exploded in his head: statues, boats, vandalism, socialism, suburbs...” https://thebulwark.com/elder-abuse-at-the-white-house/

"The heavy price we will pay for Trump’s presidency is not that we will feel bad as a people about his lack of virtue...but that his lies and abuse will leave the government itself, along with the political system and our civic culture, degraded." https://www.nationalreview.com/the-tuesday/price-trump-presidency-government-political-system-civic-...

"The rap on Trump has always been about his actual character, the sort of man he is, not merely his etiquette...But as a matter of cheap rhetoric, it is easy to shed a few crocodile tears over 'the tweets' and the vulgarity while defending the program." https://www.nationalreview.com/the-tuesday/price-trump-presidency-government-political-system-civic-...

A conversation from early 2019 with the thoughtful Republican expert on Congress, Jeff Bergner, in which he supports getting rid of the routine legislative filibuster. https://conversationswithbillkristol.org/video/jeff-bergner/

Pretty jarring to hear "grab 'em by the pu**sy" against the tones of "Amazing Grace." The kind of spot you remember.

This is, in my opinion, the most moving ad we’ve made with the @RVAT2020 testimonials.

The President is Using Us.

“The ad will air on Fox News this week in NC...and will also be ‘targeted online to evangelical and Christian swing voters in the battleground states.’ Trump’s approval rating among white evangelical protestants...[has declined] 6 points [since] April.” https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/507201-gop-anti-trump-group-urges-christian-republicans-to-res...

I’m struck by the thoughtful emails and calls I’ve already received responding to this—agreeing in part, disagreeing in part, raising other points. Do write up your thoughts. Even criticism! Debate is good. It’s no time to be sleepwalking into the future. https://thebulwark.com/can-the-republican-party-be-saved/

What's the appropriate consequence for a political party that stands proudly behind a man like this?

Kevin, a pastor from AZ: "When he went across the street to have the photo op at the church carrying an upside down Bible, and proceeded to drive peaceful protesters out with tear gas and force, I knew right then that this was a man who was an absolute danger to our country."

Kevin is a pastor from AZ who voted Trump in 2016 - here is his case against four more years:

"And when you put all that together, I think this is a man who must, must be removed by voters in November from governing our country."

"If these two documents are examples of what Pack and his team think is persuasive communication, then America’s best weapon against hostile propaganda has fallen into incompetent hands. Either that or malevolent." https://wp.me/p4ja0Z-NvI

"Men and kings must be judged in the testing moments of their lives. Courage is rightly esteemed the first of human qualities, because, as has been said, it is the quality which guarantees all others." -- Winston Churchill, 1931

Courage can be found in America, just not in Washington.

Yup. And "sometimes, party loyalty asks too much." -- John F. Kennedy

P.s. This is a pretty dismal special election showing for Rs. Trump carried  #NY27 by 25% but Jacobs (R)’s 8% lead over McMurray (D) could narrow even further to ~6% when Niagara Co. finishes its absentee count.

Need proof we’re headed for a massive divide between Election Day results & absentees? Look no further than last month’s special in  #NY27 (a seat Trump won by 25%), where Chris Jacobs (R) led 70%-28% on election night but now leads just 53%-45% w/ most absentees counted.

“Trump’s commutation of Stone’s sentence brings to mind another occasion, nearly a century ago, when a Republican president commuted a convict’s sentence—not out of self-interest...but out of concern for what he thought was right for the country.” https://thebulwark.com/presidential-pardons-and-the-spirit-of-clemency/

“Democrats have their eye on a potential landslide victory, a reality most Republican operatives now understand is a genuine possibility. But there are smart ways to go hunting for a big win. And there are risky ways.” https://thebulwark.com/joe-biden-should-not-mess-with-texas/

“Fauci was doomed from the start because he is serious, sober, dedicated, and independent, not a lackey for the Bad Orange Man. Above all, he was doomed because he tells the truth. And this administration is one continuing lie.” https://thebulwark.com/dr-fauci-was-doomed-from-the-start/

“Trump extends clemency not when the system fails but when it works, not to right obvious wrongs but to cover them up. By commuting Stone’s sentence, the president proved once again that he is incapable of using his powers without abusing them.” https://thebulwark.com/the-tale-of-vindman-and-stone/

“People who contract COVID-19 do not elicit Trump’s sympathy. The only people who do are those who support him, lie for him, and go, or almost go, to prison for him.” https://thebulwark.com/the-tale-of-vindman-and-stone/
