I retweeted this y’day but retweeting it again today. The peerage list is an inflection point. The old rules are dead. Decency, shame, accountability. We the press, public & parliament need to take serious stock. This is a Trumpian moment. Johnson has changed politics. So must we
Serco received 108 million for 12 weeks of contact tracing and possibility of 408 million pound extension.
Just had this email from @Public Health England. Asking me to work 12h shifts assessing new COVID tests. Unpaid. Meanwhile SERCO contact tracers pick up £14/h (of taxpayer money) doing nothing all day everyday. Maybe start paying scientists doing CRUCIAL & highly skilled labour a wage?!
Our civil liberties are on brink. This is not a drill. There is no excuse for snatching women off the street and throwing them into unmarked vans. To not protect our rights is to give them away. It is our responsibility to resist authoritarianism.
This chap’s been more blot than copybook for months. When sycophancy to a dishonest PM is prioritised over standards in public life, we all lose. The local public health teams identify 99% of the contacts of those they test. But they don’t get data from those tested by Deloitte. And Serco have managed only 59000 contacts in 6 weeks ie <1 contact per tracer per fortnight. A £10 billion shambles.
