I can’t count the number of times ignorant people have told me the classics are “for white people.” Dr. Anika Prather, one of the most amazing people I have met along the CLT journey, is worth reading carefully. http://blog.cltexam.com/classic-learning-in-black-history-part-ii/

Children need stories. But it’s never too late. Adults need them too. If you didn’t learn to order your loves as a child you still can. Just read good stories, starting with Aesop and the Bible.

While important, I worry that the emphasis on building relationships with student distracts from discussions of effective pedagogy. “He has great relationships with kids.” Cool... but has he taught them to read?

Good teachers should be the most highly respected members of society. These union clowns are not helping.

Here's another example of Common Core math.

I guess the old way was just too easy.

Rand Paul introduced legislation to fund families directly using existing federal education funding. https://www.pscp.tv/w/cfsHXjFXZ0VnTHBrbnJ3UXZ8MXlOR2FCQW9Obm5Kal75WdA2WmHGeS_cwkRZy1j0QuJaAhRqAXDRk0...

Regardless of skin color; When parents read to their kids, set high expectations, and stay married, the kids normally do well. This is the hard truth that the academic establishment is committed to ignoring.

Insane.

The latest article on the CLT Journal, from our newest team member,  @Tyler Bonin. https://blog.cltexam.com/is-there-still-a-crisis-in-education/

https://blog.cltexam.com/is-there-still-a-crisis-in-education/ I am thrilled to welcome  @Tyler Bonin to the CLT team. Tyler has been published in the  @The Wall Street Journal,  @The Atlantic,  @Federalist Society He writes the truth. Please RT!

76% of teachers in America are women. And in some communities, more than 75% of fathers are absent. Too many young boys are growing up without healthy male role models. A big thanks to all the hero football coaches out there who are changing lives! More men need to wake up!

Some of the greatest minds in American history had little or no formal schooling (Ben Franklin, Abigail Adams, Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass).

And by quiet we mean absolutely paralyzed, brain-freeze-dumb on Flannery O’Connor. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/loyola-quiet-on-flannery-oconnor-residence-hall-controversy-...

I’m trying to wake people up to the reality that the SAT and ACT control secondary Ed more than any other organizations.

I can’twait to hear this. Besides leading the largest religious organization in the world he also crushed communism. He was a scholar second to none, what disqualifies him?

@Jeremy Wayne Tate I can think of a lot of reasons to keep JPII off the exam. I'm not sure about the objection to CS Lewis though.

2018, CLT meeting with a large public university. Public university: You can’t put C.S. Lewis and JPII passages on a college entrance exam. Me: So we can’t include two of the greatest minds from the entire 20th century because they were into Jesus?

Doing a survey; RT if you think the Department of Education should NOT exist.

I have talked to private school admins that are willing to defy the state and suffer the consequences to serve their students. The mindset of the teachers unions is incomprehensible to them.

Empower parents. Help students. Support their choices and needs. https://thehill.com/blogs/congress-blog/education/510732-a-plan-to-empower-parents-increase-educatio...

Today at the journal, we are joined by a devotee of the Great Books who, at first, never thought she'd take any interest in them: https://blog.cltexam.com/classic-learning-in-black-history-part-i/
