“For a lot of people a car means freedom and social status. But if a city provides you no choice but to drive, a car isn't freedom, it's dependence.” https://www.wired.com/story/cities-without-cars-san-francisco-jeff-tumlin/

Done on a Friday in the middle of a pandemic so no one would notice. Notice. Trump fires watchdog who handled Ukraine complaint. http://strib.mn/2X8GUgw

@Costa Samaras  @air quality enjoyer  @JesseJenkins  @Lyft  @Uber I think we have to start thinking about phasing out personal car ownership. Just too expensive at 25% of take home pay. Many lower cost ways to provide mobility.

“The professionals developed the models. I was never involved in a model... at least this kind of a model,” Donald Trump debasing women in the middle of a riff about how hundreds of thousands of Americans may die from the coronavirus.

ROOMS: a thread. I’m tired of being confined to the same few rooms all the time, and maybe you are, too. Here are some rooms that feed the eye & spirit, in no particular order: No. 13 Breakfast Room, Sir John Soane’s Museum, London.

This makes me very happy right now...maybe it will do the same for you.

I’ve encountered countless letters on White House stationery in my time in various archives, but I’ve never seen a president send a letter as petty and childish as this one — and definitely not on a matter that’s literally life or death for Americans.

I hope that was the first and only zoom funeral gathering I’ll attend.

In order for philanthropy to respond adequately to this moment, endowed private foundations will need to challenge conventional thinking about spending and increase their giving for a period of time. https://cep.org/a-call-to-funders-to-increase-giving-in-an-unprecedented-time/

Just spoke to a friend in Ohio. Works at a huge hospital system. Today given one N95 to reuse for the ‘foreseeable future’. One surgical mask a shift. Can only wear masks for confirmed  #coronavirus patients. This is how healthcare workers get infected. This is how we lose.

Trump told states they were on their own to purchase medical equipment, so that’s what MA tried to do. But then the federal government outbid MA at least 3 times – and reports show two of our orders were seized by federal authorities. This is unacceptable. https://www.bostonglobe.com/2020/03/31/nation/warren-feds-why-did-you-take-massachusettss-medical-su...

Hospitals can’t get ventilators. Hundreds are dying every day. The government’s stockpile of critical equipment is almost gone ... and yet, an “emergency order” for more golf carts? This is not an April Fools joke.
